QACEA SICK LEAVE BANK

Important Facts and Procedures for Signing Up

All QACPS employees who are members of QACEA and are covered under the contracts between QACPS and QACEA are eligible to join the Sick Leave Bank.

 

Contributors to the SLB will be permitted to apply for use of the bank for salary payment for QUALIFYING CATASTROPHIC AND INCAPACITATING PERSONAL ILLNESS OR INJURY NOT ANTICIPATED TO BE PERMANENT.

 

Applications will be emailed to all employees in the eligible bargaining units and may also be available on the QACEA website or from your building rep.

 

Applications for the SLB for 2007-08 must be received by Monday, November 5, 2007.  They should be handed to your building rep or mailed to the address on the application form.

 

Applicants are required to donate 1.5 days of sick leave for the coming year.

 

Members joining the SLB are not eligible to use the bank for a period of thirty days after receipt of their application for membership.

 

The SLB may not be used for disabilities of family members or to assist family members.

 

The SLB may not be used to cover any absence from work due to or related to a normal pregnancy and/or normal childbirth.

 

Before receiving SLB benefits, a member must use all accumulated sick leave.

 

There will be a three-day waiting period after all available sick leave is exhausted before SLB benefits may be used.

 

Grants will be approved in 20-day increments, with doctor’s certification necessary for renewal.

 

The maximum lifetime number of days that that the SLB will grant to an individual is 190.
